MIRCROBLADING

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow procedure.  The procedure is performed by manually depositing pigment superficially in the upper region of the dermis (skin) using a pen-like tool, which has needles fused together in a linear grouping. The tool is used to manually draw individual, crisp, hair-like strokes to give the appearance of a natural, fuller, and beautiful brow.

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM MICROBLADING?

Anyone who wants fuller, thicker, more beautiful eyebrows is a candidate.  Microblading creates an extremely realistic 3-D look to enhance the existing hair or add to areas that are lacking it. Microblading can also be a great help to individuals with alopecia, or who are post chemotherapy, postnatal, or suffering from stress, depression, or thyroid issues leading to loss or thinning of brows.

WHAT MAKES MICROBLADING DIFFERENT FROM A TATTOO?

Microblading only reaches the first thin layer of the skin and is temporary, versus a tattoo that is embedded deeper and has a permanent effect.  It is done manually, not with a machine, allowing for greater control and detail.  The technique is used with pigment that is better tolerated by the skin and fades out naturally, not ink which can fade or dull to an undesirable color.  Already had an eyebrow tattoo procedure done?  Microblading is still an option!  Color correction is a service offered by Litwin Cosmetic Solutions that allows an existing tattoo to be lightened to the point that it can be replaced with Microblading. Clients that will need corrective work done from a previous procedure or tattoo will need to schedule their appointment with Master Artist Shaena.

DOES MICROBLADING HURT?

Generally no.  A numbing cream is applied beforehand to make the client’s procedure as comfortable as possible.

HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST?

Results vary but you can typically expect one and a half to three years, depending on the person’s skin type.  Typically a touch up is done four to six weeks after the procedure to ensure the best result.  To keep a great shape and lasting pigment it is recommended to get an enhancement annually.

HOW LONG DOES THE MICROBLADING PROCEDURE TAKE?

The microblading process usually takes three to four hours.

WHAT SHOULD I AVOID AFTER A MICROBLADING PROCEDURE?

Please be aware that after the Microblading procedure you'll need to avoid the following:

  • Getting your brows wet for 14 days.

  • Do not put lotions, makeup, etc. on the brows for 14 days or until healed.

  • Sweating. (this can be difficult but do your best)

  • Retin-A or Glycolic Acids on the brow area.

  • Sun exposure for 2 weeks (use sunscreen after this period to better protect results)

  • A tanning bed for a month.

  • Sleeping on your face for 10 days.

Please let us know if you've had any recent procedure in the eyebrow area (botox, surgeries, peels, medications, MRI, etc).

WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR MICROBLADING?

Those that are pregnant or breastfeeding are not advised to undergo the procedure due to difficulty retaining the pigment. If you are on certain antibiotics, a similar issue could be encountered. Individuals undergoing cancer treatments and those that suffer from certain types of diabetes can also cause premature loss of the pigment. Clients should be at least 18 years of age due to growing and changes still occurring to the face and body at younger ages. Botox should be avoided 2 week prior and 2 weeks post procedure.

SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION

WILL SMP DISCOLOR OR "LEAK" TO SURROUNDING SKIN LIKE A TATTOO?

No. Special pigment is used that will gradually fade or lighten in color, not change in color.  Specialized equipment along with microneedles are used to deposit the perfect amount of pigment to the perfect depth in the skin to mimic a healthy hair follicle and will not spread to surrounding skin over time.

HOW LONG WILL SMP LAST?

The procedure will last a number of years.  As the pigment naturally fades over time, it can be enhanced back to strong color with a touch up treatment to restore the original look.

HOW LONG DOES THE SMP PROCEDURE TAKE?

The process typically takes three to four hours depending on what is needed. A hairline restoration may take less time, while an entire scalp could possibly take more time. Most clients will need three procedures. This is highly affected by skin type (oily vs dry) and aftercare. Some clients will require additional sessions while other may get away with only needing two sessions.

IS IT OBVIOUS THAT SOMEONE HAS HAD SMP?

No. Sophisticated techniques combined with high end specialized equipment creates an extremely realistic, natural look. The confidence boost it provides is incredible.

DOES THE PROCEDURE HURT?

Scalp sensitivity varies from person to person. There is commonly some discomfort associated with the procedure, but it is tolerable and does not last beyond the completion of the session.

DO I NEED TO KEEP MY HAIR SHORT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

Some scenarios allow for someone with thinning hair to keep their hair longer, as the procedure will help to hide the scalp that is starting to show through. However, in most circumstances a shorter buzzed haircut will create the most realistic appearance.

DOES SMP ONLY WORK WITH CERTAIN HAIR OR SKIN TYPES?

SMP will work with any skin tone and a variety of hair color shades, including those with graying hair. The pigment can be toned in such a manner to match the shade of the hair after it has been buzzed short.

WILL SMP WORK TO HIDE SCARS WHERE MY HAIR DOESN'T GROW?

Yes, SMP is a fantastic option to hide scarring of the scalp. It commonly used to camouflage the scar from a previous hair transplant procedure, or from trauma that has left areas of the scalp without hair. The scarred areas need to be complete healed prior to starting the procedure.

IS THERE ANY DOWN TIME AFTER THE SMP PROCEDURE?

There is no downtime. You will most likely have skin redness for the first two or three days. A hat may be worn immediately after if you wish. Exercise and sweating need to be avoided for the first five days after the procedure as well.
